Moraa Advances to 800m Finals, Chepkemoi Claims Bronze

Kenya’s Diana Chepkemoi secured a bronze medal in the women's 300m steeplechase finals, setting a personal best time of 9:29.84.

Like Cousin, like family. Kenya’s junior middle-distance runner Sarah Moraa has secured her place in the 800m finals at the World U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, set for Friday. Moraa clinched victory in her semi-final heat with a time of 2:03.44, raising hopes for a podium finish. 

Other notable heat winners included Australia’s Claudia Hollingsworth (2:03.52) and Japan’s Rin Kubo, who won heat one with a time of 2:03.00.

Sarah Moraa follows in the footsteps of her elder Cousin, Mary Moraa, who won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Sarah is now poised for a potential podium finish in Lima.

 

Chepkemoi wins Bronze for Kenya 

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase finals, Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew claimed gold with a championship record of 9:12.71, ahead of Uganda’s Loice Chepkemoi (9:18.84). Kenya’s Diana Chepkemoi secured a bronze medal, setting a personal best time of 9:29.84.

On Wednesday, Kenya’s Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi delivered a stunning final sprint to win gold at the men’s 5000m at the World U-20 Athletics Championships.
