Now, Shujaa will face Fiji in the final, a team they memorably defeated to win the 2016 Singapore 7s.

Kenya’s Sevens rugby team, Shujaa, delivered a thrilling 12-5 victory over Spain in the semifinals of the Singapore 7s on Sunday, April 6, 2025, securing their place in the Main Cup final. This achievement marks their first appearance in a World Series Cup final since 2018.

The win capped off a series of impressive performances for Shujaa, who had already made a statement by defeating Ireland and France in the group stages. Their dominance continued in the semifinal, where they showed excellent discipline, limiting Spain to just two visits inside Kenya’s 22-meter line.

The match started on a high note for Shujaa, with Patrick Odongo scoring a brilliant try just two minutes in after a breakaway. Nygel Amaitsa’s conversion put Kenya ahead 7-0. Spain’s chances took a major blow when Francisco Cosculluela was shown a red card late in the first half, and Kenya made the most of the numerical advantage. A perfectly executed scrum led to Odongo’s second try, extending their lead to 12-0.

Spain didn’t back down and managed to fight back with a try from Pol Pla, capitalizing on a rare error from Kenya. However, a missed conversion meant the score stayed at 12-5. In the final moments of the match, Spain launched a desperate attack, but Kenya’s defense stood strong. A crucial penalty in the dying seconds allowed Jone Kubu to kick the ball into touch, sealing the win.

Now, Shujaa will face Fiji in the final, a team they memorably defeated to win the 2016 Singapore 7s. With both sides hungry for the title, the final promises to be a thrilling clash. For Shujaa, it’s a chance to recreate the magic of 2016 and claim another World Series title.
