Kenya Handball League Prepares for Premier League Transition

In the women’s league, Ulinzi Sharks are on top with 16 points, two ahead of second placed Nairobi Water, with NCPB coming third with 10 points.

The current men’s teams and women’s teams in the top tier handball league are competing for a place in the newly introduced Kenya Handball Federation Premier League, set to debut in the 2025-2026 season. Each league will feature 12 top teams, with the relegated teams forming the National Handball League. 

The introduction of the Premier League aims to intensify competition and raise the standards of handball, with teams playing home and away fixtures.

Currently, the men’s league consists of 30 teams while the women’s league features 16. At the end of this season, 18 teams from the men’s league and 6 from the women’s league will face relegation, paving way for the Premier League structure.

In the men’s league, NCPB, Ulinzi and Equity are tied at the top unbeaten with 16 points from eight games, separated only by goal difference. At the weekend, NCPB will be facing Boomerang, Ulinzi will play Young City while Equity is not scheduled for a match.

 

In the women’s league, Ulinzi Sharks are on top with 16 points, two ahead of second placed Nairobi Water, with NCPB coming third with 10 points. Both Ulinzi Sharks and Nairobi Water are unbeaten while NCPB have suffered one loss. At the bottom of the table, Young Zealots have played eight games and lost all of them.
