Shabana FC picked up a vital 3-1 victory over Bandari FC on Sunday at Gusii Stadium, continuing their strong form. Austine Odongo, Mark Okola and Nehemiah Onchiri were on the scoresheet for Shabana, while Ali Halafu netted Bandari’s lone goal.
From the start, Shabana looked determined, with Odongo coming close in the 6th minute. They finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Odongo, unmarked in the box, slotted the ball home to send the home fans into a frenzy. Bandari tried to respond, but Shabana’s relentless pressing kept them at bay. By halftime, Shabana had a slim 1-0 lead and looked poised to extend it.
The second half started with a change for Shabana, as Kevin Omundi replaced Ezekiah Omuri. The move paid off immediately, with Okola heading in a free kick from Brian Michira just two minutes into the second half, putting Shabana 2-0 ahead. Bandari fought back, and Halafu pulled one back with 22 minutes remaining, but a late goal from substitute Onchiri in the 87th minute sealed the win for Shabana.
The victory takes Shabana to 40 points, moving them up to 5th place in the KPL standings, ahead of AFC Leopards and KCB.
Meanwhile, Tusker FC’s chances of clinching the FKF Premier League title took a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mara Sugar at Awendo Stadium. Chrispine Erambo scored for Tusker, while Samuel Odaro netted for Mara Sugar. The draw leaves Tusker on 48 points, just one behind leaders Kenya Police FC, who were held to a goalless draw by Nairobi City Stars.
