G.G. Waburi, playing off a handicap of 17, emerged as the overall champion of the Legendary Golf Tournament, held at the par-72 Kiambu Golf Course last weekend, with an impressive return of 39 stableford points.

At the same time, Muchemi Gachugi, playing off handicap 18, carded 37 points and triumphed over Boniface Mureithi in a countback to secure the overall men's winner title. The tournament, which drew 140 top amateur golfers from across the country, was highly competitive.

Following his victory, a delighted Waburi expressed his excitement, saying, "It’s a proud moment for me to come out on top against over 100 golfers. Kiambu is always a tough course, but I was prepared. I had a great team that pushed me to give my best. My first nine was outstanding, and although the back nine wasn’t perfect, my swing was on point today, contributing to the overall score.”

In the fiercely contested ladies’ category, Mary Kimemia, with a handicap of 15, returned 38 stableford points to claim the title. Seasoned golfer Ann Ngumba, playing off handicap 21, secured second place with 33 points, while Anne Njambi, with a handicap of 47, was the subsidiary winner with 43 points.

Kimemia expressed her joy after the victory, stating, "This win has been a long time coming. I’ve put in a lot of work behind the scenes, and today’s win is a testament to my love and passion for the game. The competition was tough, but I was determined from the start, securing strong points on both the first and back nine. I’m excited for the upcoming competitions.”

 

Mercy Maina, playing off handicap 51, won the guest winner award with a remarkable return of 41 stableford points. Henry Kirika, with a handicap of 21, won the first nine award with 21 points, while Billy Odera, handicap 20, claimed the second nine award with 19 points. Daniel Salaton took the nearest-to-the-pin award in the men's category, while Grace Kibe was closest in the ladies’ section.

Nahashon Mburu won the men’s longest drive award, with Laura Koki claiming the title for the ladies.
