To determine the winners, athletes will earn points for their finishing position in each of their races and the one with the highest tally at the end of the day wins the prize.
Six Kenya athletes are lined to compete at the inaugural Grand Slam Track meet slated for Friday, April 4 to Sunday, April 6, 2025 in Kingston, Jamaica.
800m World Champion Mary Moraa lead the Kenyan hexad of Ronald Kwemoi the 2024 Paris Olympics 5,000m silver medalist, 10K world record holder Agnes Ng'etich, 2024 Summer Olmpics 800m gold medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi, 2024 Paris Olympics 1,500m finalist Susan Ejore and Hellen Ekalale- the winner of 10K Valencia Road Race 2025, to the star studded showpiece.
The athletes who have been classified into two- racers (seasoned runners) and challengers (emerging top performers) will be vying for KSh12,925,000 (100,000 USD) prize for the winners in each category. Kenya’s racers are Moraa, Ng'etich and Kwemoi, whereas Wnyonyi, Ekalale and Ejore are challengers.
The meet got six categories, each with two disciples as indicated below:
Short Sprints (100m and 200m)
Long Sprints (200m and 400m)
Short Hurdles (Men: 110m H and 100m flat / Women: 100m H and 100m flat)
Long Hurdles (400m H and 400m flat)
Short Distance (800m and 1,500m)
Long Distance (3,000m and 5,000m)
The trio racers are among a pool of 48 who shall compete in all the four circuits of the Slam Track in 2025.
Challengers (total of 52) on the other hand, will be seeking to earn racer spots at the 2026 league. To determine the winners, athletes will earn points for their finishing position in each of their races and the one with the highest tally at the end of the day wins the prize.
