Athletics activities took a decade long break from the 77-year old arena and the return of sporting activities is set to rouse Nakuru as over 1,000 athletes will flock the City to compete in 11 events

Then newly refurbished Afraha Stadium will host the fourth leg of Athletics Kenya's/Betika Track and Field event on April 4 and 5, 2025.

Athletics activities took a decade long break from the 77-year old arena and the return of sporting activities is set to rouse Nakuru as over 1,000 athletes will flock the City to compete in 11 events.

10 years ago, runners competed on murram surface, but this weekend, participants who will feature in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, and 10,000m walk races will run on virgin blue tartan track. Athletes competing in field events- hammer throw, discus throw, and triple jump will have a feel of the well-manicured and sufficiently irrigated grass of Afraha.
David Otiti, the Treasurer of Athletics Kenya (AK) Nakuru region and a former athlete looked elated during the announcement of new developments. He noted that the meet has attracted both top and emerging athletes in Kenya.

“It’s a great opportunity for athletics to come and compete as part of their preparations for international competitions, including the Tokyo World Championships in August,” said Atiti.
The Nakuru circuit was preceded by meets in Mumias, Thika and Kapsabet.
