Double bronze for Yego, 4x400m quartet as curtains fall on Commonwealth Games

Javelin thrower Julius Yego and the men’s 4 x 400m relay quartet of Wiseman Mukhobe, Mike Mokamba,William Raiyan and Boniface Mweresa bagged bronze medals as the curtains closed on the Commonwealth Games athletics competition at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday evening.

Javelin thrower Julius Yego and the men’s 4 x 400m relay quartet of Wiseman Mukhobe, Mike Mokamba,William Raiyan and Boniface Mweresa bagged bronze medals as the curtains closed on the Commonwealth Games athletics competition at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday evening.

Yego was third in the men’s javelin with a throw of 85.76 meters. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold in a new games record of 90.18 meters while Granada’s Anderson Peters settled for silver in 88.64 meters.

Boniface Mweresa ran a solid final lap to steer the Kenyan men to bronze in the men’s 4 x 400m relay, clocking 3 minutes 02.41 seconds.

Botswana took the silver in 3:01.85 while Trinidad and Tobago claimed the gold medal in 3 minutes :01.29 seconds.

Kenya closed out the Commonwealth Games with 6 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze medals.
