Mombasa's changing fortunes in sporting facilities has attracted Football Kenya Federation (FKF) who have selected the newly built Bomu Stadium to host Kenya vs Egypt U20 international friendly in March.

The new and shiny Bomu Stadium is now complete. It boasts  of a FIFA standard 11-aside Astro-Turf pitch with full amenities including lavatories, changing rooms, flood lights and can accommodate over 3,000 fans.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, who has been keen to revolutionize sports in the county, confirmed FKF's show of confidence.

"I am delighted to announce that Football Kenya Federation have selected Bomu Stadium for an international U20 friendly match between Kenya and Egypt to be played next month. My esteemed appreciation to Hon. Omar Mwinyi, Mr. Nicholas Mwendwa the President of Football Kenya Federation and the people of Changamwe for a beautiful pitch trial game at the Bomu Stadium this evening.," A post on Joho’s Facebook page read.

Nick Mwendwa was part of the team that inspected works and played in a trial match at the Bomu Stadium.

Joho BomuSeveral facilities in Mombasa are being spruced up with Uwanja wa Mbuzi Mini Stadium in Kongowea, Nyali Sub-county, already operational since in May 2017.

FKF has invited a 90 players from across the country from the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tourney and FKF Youth leagues for trials with a aim to select an U20 Harambee Stars side that will take part in a four-nation tournament in March.

The team will be using the tournament that will feature Egypt to prepare for the 2019 African Youth Championships (AYC) to be staged in Niger.
