Vennessa Lwila’s three point shot on the buzzer was not enough to help her team Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) as they lost to Mount Kenya University 25-30 in the Zuku Universities Basketball League played at the Technical University grounds in Nairobi on Saturday.

With scores at 30-22, CUEA had open chances in the closing seconds of the final session but their continued missed shots under the rim and poor execution in rebounds denied them a chance to redeem themselves at least with a first season win. MKU (06, 05, 05, 14), CUEA (02, 05, 08, 10)

This was the second successive defeat for CUEA since the start of the ZUBL 2013 season. In their first match, they lost to University of Nairobi at home.

According to Vennessa Lwila who was one of the best performers on the day, the team lacked team chemistry and they did not show the urgency to win the match despite pre match strategies to push harder in offense.

“We failed to commit ourselves harder. There was no team work, no urgency but most notable, there was no chemistry on the court today.” Lwila said.

“We had so many turn overs and we need to work more on our execution. It was disappointing to lose again because we were more psyched up to win this match. But I believe the league is still too young and we will catch up with time.” Added the fourth year law student at CUEA.
