Mats Hummels' headed goal on 13 minutes was enough for Joachim Loew's Germany to reach the FIFA World Cup semi finals at France's expense. France were quick off the blocks, threatening when Karim Benzema's attempt went wide.

Hummels got his goal, connecting with Toni Kroos' curling free kick following a France infringement.

They will now meet the winner of the Brazil-Colombia semi final slated to kick off at 11.00pm Kenya time.
