Ghana to receive US$ 3M ahead of Portugal tie

Ghana’s Black Stars are set to receive US$ 3 million in cash as payment for appearance fees owed to them by the Ghanaian government. Speaking to Ghanaian media, Deputy Sports Minister Yamin Joseph said the players had specifically requested for cash payments.

There were rumors earlier in the week that the Black Stars would boycott training ahead of their game against Portugal if their pay demands were not met.  

It took a personal assurance from Ghana President John Dramani Mahama that the players would receive their money.

A statement from the Ghana Football Association said: "The government is pre-financing the payment of the Black Stars appearance fees, which will be reimbursed when Fifa's prize money for Ghana's participation in the World Cup is paid."
