Brazil set up semi final date with Germany

Thiago Silva's 3rd minute goal and David Luiz's exquisite free kick on 69 minutes steered hosts Brazil to a 2-1 win over Colombia, setting up a World Cup semi final date against Germany on Tuesday.

Brazil started this tie at a frenetic pace, pinning Colombia in their own half early on. Neymar's free kick was desparately wide but skipper Silva arrived at the back post to steer Neymar's corner into the net.

Brazil would have the upper hand for the remainder of the first half, coming close to making it 2-0 but for a double save from Colombian 'keepee David Ospina who thwarted Hulk and Oscar in quick succession.

Colombia returned for the second half a fired up side, piling the pressure on the hosts and even finding the back of the net only for Mario Yepes attempt on 67 minutes to be ruled out for offside.

They would concede a free kick two minutes later, Luiz side footing a sweetly struck 35 yard effort that curled over the Colombian defence, beating Ospina and doubling the Selecao's lead.

Brazlilan shot stopper Julio Cesar would foul Colombian substitute Carlos Bacca with ten minutes to play, James Rodriguez stepping up to score his tournament leading sixth goal from the spot, setting up a nervy finish.

The hosts stood firm and will now play Germany on Tuesday in Belo Horizonte.
