Belgium win thriller with USA to reach last eight

Extra time strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku enabled Belgium survive a furious fightback late from the USA to rally and set up a World Cup quarter final date against Argentina courtesy of a 2-1 result on Tuesday night.

USA 'keeper Tim Howard had an immense game, making the most saves ever recorded in a World Cup tie to time and again keep the marauding Belgians at bay during the regulation 90 minutes. The Red Devils scored twice before the end of the first period of extra. Julian Green's volley in only his third full appearance for the Americans ensured this match remained a cliffhanger right to the death.  

Divock Origi, the 19 year old son of former Kenyan international Mike Okoth started this match, showing his potency and even having several chances denied by the imperious Howard in the USA goal. He was replaced by Lukaku after 90 minutes.
