Poor officiating cost us the match - Adhiambo

Referee's costly mistakes played a key part in the under 20 women qualifying match pitting Kenya and Tunisia where the Kenyan starlet lost by 1-2 leaving the head coach Florence Adhiambo fuming after the match.

Two first half goals, that shouldn't have been allowed condemned the starlets to their first home defeat.

"That was the worst officiating I have witnessed, my girls played well and its unlucky to be on the losing side, in two weeks time I hope we get better officials,” said the tactician

The official from Mauritius was very inconsistent in her calls making several blunders that annoyed Kenyan fans and technical bench.

"This was very disastrous, it is good to lose clean and without complain but today’s officiating was very wanting. I hope we won’t be subjected to the same in the return leg. All the same the girls tried their best but unfortunately they failed to win.” Added Adhiambo.

The tactician also said that the large crowd that turned up for the match scared the girls who played with fear and under pressure.

“They feared conceding more goals infront of  their big crowds. They are still young and have never been subjected to suhh moments. We called for fans and when they came to support us the girls ended up being scared and confused after conceding the two goals. This resulted to defensive tactics as the girls were afraid of conceding more goals at home,"Added coach Adhiambo.

The two teams meet again in two weeks time in a return leg match in Tunis Tunisia and the coach remains confident they can overturn the result.

“We play better away while Tunisia have not been very good at home. So we want to rectify our mistakes, inject more self belief in the girls before the next assignment. They have the fire, they can make it.”

“At the same time I thank all the fans who turned up in large numbers to support us. This was very touching and I pass my sincere appreciation for the support on behalf of the girls.” Said coach Adhiambo.
