Wheel chair Tennis for Kenya Open

This years annual Kenya open tennis championship will be special after the introduction of  wheel chair tennis category for the first time at the Nairobi club starting this weekend.

There will be a total of eight categories ranging from the men’s and women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles, handicapped, veterans (40 years and above) and wheelchair categories in the main event which serves off on March 14 with the finals being played on March 18.

Speaking to Michezoafrika KLTA administrator Neil Mwombe has said that there was need to introduce the sport so that they can accommodate the entire tennis family.

“There was need to represent all categories, wheel chair tennis therefore comes in, I am sure we will have a better Kenya open comparing to the previous editions”, said the administrator

The wheelchair category will also have both men’s and women’s singles whose winners will pocket Ksh 20,000 and 12,000 respectively while the winner of the veteran men’s doubles will pocket Ksh 4,000, Ksh1000 more compared to what the winners of the women’s singles will be pocketing.

This comes after the just concluded wheel chair world cup tennis qualifying tournament which was held in Kenya for the first time.
