Mugabe leads others to the semis of Kenya open

Duncan Mugabe made it to the semi finals of the Kenya open  after easily overcoming Tanzania’s Brian Malya in sets of 6-1, 6-3, in a quarter final match on Thursday at the Nairobi club.

Kenyans on the other had did not have an easy run as only Fazal Khan progressed to the semis with the rest of the Kenyans eliminated in  the quarters.
Khan will meet Jean Gasigwa of Rwanda who also beat Tanzanian Kasim Hassa 6-3,6-0 in the quarters. ‪Juma Changawa was knocked out in the quarters by Zimbabwean, Edgar Kazembe who had a 6-2,6-2 set. Kennedy Oduor tried but despite winning the second set, he could not match Hillary Nyakabau who won the match 7-5,2-6,6-0.

Burindians are having the best outing so far as two of their own, Amadi Kagoma and Issa Cuma made it to the semis with wins over Tanzanian Rajabu Waziri who lost 6-1,6-4 to Kagoma and Kenyan Ibrahim Kibet who suffered 6-1,4-6,6-3 loss at the hands of  Issa Cuma of Burundi.

In the ladies category Caroline Oduor  of Kenya made it to the semis after overcoming compatriot Eunice Wambui in sets of 6-4,6-0, in quarters on Thursday to sail to the semi finals.

Another Kenyan, Evelyn Otula and tournament’s third seed, Omar Fernandez also made the semis after winning the mid morning matches played at the Nairobi club courts Thursday.

Otula eliminated Gloria Rotich with a 6-0,6-4 win while Fernandez registered similar sets win of, 6-1,6-1 set over Laura Price.Juliet Cherono beat Museke Rosette 6-3,6-2 to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Edwin Murua, Yohana Assamwila,Samuel Lemurt,Alfred Simiyu, Caleb Odiyo and Dennis Muga all qualified to the wheelchair category semis after they were awarded walk overs

Bhaveet Chudasamma and Jeremiah Singira also made it to the semis with wins over Itaken Timoi (4-1,4-0) and Silvester Baraza who lost 2-4, 4-2, 5-2.
