BNP Paribas wheelchair Tennis kicks off

It was a poor  start for Kenyan ladies in the BNP Paribas wheel chair tennis championship as Jane Ndenga went down to South Africa’s van Der Meer  Rose  in clear sets of 6-0, 6,0 while another Kenyan Rahel Akoth lost in the same margin to south Africa’s  Moline Musa at the Kenya monetary studies on Tuesday morning.

In the men’s category Kenya is in pool A together with Nigeria and Egypt with the Kenyan representatives being Edwin Muruah, Henry Odiyo and Alfred Barasa.
Pool B has Morocco and Gambia together with Zimbabwe who are yet to arrive and are said to be joining the tournament by Tuesday night.

ITF representative Suzie Dyrbos from England who has been in the country since Saturday said that she is impressed by the level of tennis she is witnessing and that she enjoyed watching Kenyans train saying they got talent.

“It is a pleasure being in this part of the region, wheel chair tennis is held for the first time in Africa  and I impressed, the South African ladies are playing well and strong, and I am sure a strong team will be chosen “, she said

The finals will be played on Friday with the sole reason of choosing a team that will represent African in the world cup that will be staged in South Korea in may 2012
