Regarded as arguably the best junior Tennis player in the country 15 year old Stephanie Mbaya is pushing her way forward after finish third in the Real Insurance Kenya Open Tennis last weekend in Nairobi.

With her rising credentials Mbaya has been rewarded with an ITF Scholarship to play in the North African Circuit running from June 17 to July 17 this year. The Circuit, which has two tournaments in Tunisia and Egypt, will feature junior internationals from across the world.

This was due to her recent performance in the Kenya Africa Junior Championships in Nairobi that booked the Kenyan her maiden appearance in the ITF Fed Cup Junior Under-16 Championships that will be held from June 10 to 15 in Tunisia.

The form two The Loreto Convent Valley Road student prior to her semi final match of Kenya Open with eventual winner Caroline Oduor, had admitted winning matches was more important than the Ksh90, 000 prize money.

“At my age I want to enjoy my game gain experience and win as many matches as possible. If I start talking about money it won’t be a good show to my sponsors. I don’t intend to take it anyway.” smiled Mbaya.

Mbaya spoke highly of the forthcoming ITF Scholarship which she sees as an opportunity to play the best in the continent which will in turn make her a better player.

“Stephanie has a desire to represent Kenya at the highest level possible. I had a privilege to attend an ITF High Performance Centre Training in Pretoria in January. It was an eye opener which has helped me improve.”

“I want to come back a better player.” concludes Mbaya.
