Africa Tourney hosting excites former Kenya Tennis Queen

Former Africa Junior number five tennis player Wanjiru Mbugua who is now Assistant Director of the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association has welcomed the decision by to award Kenya hosting rights for this year’s African junior tennis championships set next month.

 Mbugua indicated that during her time, it was never easy to host such an expensive tournament saying this is a great opportunity for young talents to interact with the best of upcoming stars from all over Africa.

“Kenyans have a chance to watch the best juniors the continent has. This will also encourage Kenyan young talents and motivate them to work harder.”She says.

“During our time these opportunities never came our way.The tournaments were held in the North and West African countries and I am excited that for once this prestigious tournament has come home. I urge Tennis lovers and Kenyans in particular to come out and support the sport and the young talents.” She adds.

The former Kenyan Tennis Queen continues to say that nothing comes easy and being ranked 5th in Africa during her time came with a lot of hard work, discipline and passion for the sport.

“That was never an easy achievement and I want to encourage the upcoming players to work hard to achieve their dreams. It is good to take part in many tournaments because that is the best way one can get exposure to face stiff competition.”

Wanji, as she is commonly known, was speaking during the launch of the 36th edition of the African junior tennis championships to be held at the Nairobi Club from 12th to 23rd March at the Nairobi club.
