Details

Machakos, A major town in Kenya and the capital of Machakos County is the home City for the most recently built and lauded Kenyatta Stadium, lying just adjacent to the Machakos Social Hall.

Machakos Town lies 63 kilometers South East of the Kenya’s Capital, Nairobi. The County Government of Machakos under the leadership Governor Alfred Mutua, worked hard in 2013 to ensure that the once dilapidated Jomo Kenyatta Stadium would be refurbished in record time, to ensure it was ready for the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup in December 2013.

In only six weeks the once 5,000 capacity Stadium was upgraded to a 10,000-capacity arena with a green pitch, metallic stands, well-made changing rooms and fitted with CCTV cameras. It was indeed a sight to behold looking at the world class facilities included in the new stadium with rooted terraces.

Apart from hosting the CECAFA championships, the famous Safaricom and Masaku 7s  training sessions and matches for the national team, the Stadium is now home to Sofapaka FC, a very competitive team in the Kenya Premier League.

Another major Sports ground alongside the Machakos Stadium is the Machakos Golf Club that is spread over a large opulent area with a 9-hole golf course. You can never lack eat outs and entertainment spots around Machakos Stadium. The Towns biggest hotel is Gelian Hotel not very far from the Stadium. Others include the T-tot hotel, Ikuuni, Buddies, Club Legend, Club Wizard, Hornbill, Bulls among others. Guest houses around include, Le Technish, Lysak Haven Park and Shanbad House
