He was named the KANDANDA AWARDS PLAYER OF THE MONTH in April-The Kandanda award is an initiative of a caucus of Kenyan sports journalists seeking to motivate the performance of Kenyan premier league players each month.

Eric Masika has risen through the ranks of Kenyan football to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the Kenya Premier league. He is hardworking and full of passion for his team.

He played his first full competitive match for the national team during the 2011 edition of the LG Cup in Nairobi against Sudan and proved his worth as one of the future stars for the Harambee Stars.

In the absence of injured Harambee Stars’ regular central defender Anthony Kimani who has been ruled out of the Harambee Stars’ vs. Uganda Cranes tie, Erick Masika stands chance to be used as a fill in for Kimani depending on the assessment of the technical bench.


Masika is currently in his third year of study at the Catholic University of East Africa studying Bachelor of commerce. He went to Sunshine high school in Nairobi where he tried his hand in Rugby but later changed his mind to the most popular sport- Soccer.

He has his eyes set on playing in top leagues in Europe soon and his hard work and determination outlines his focus in the game.

Masika drew his inspiration from former Gor Mahia player Austin Oduor.His interest in soccer drove him to the hands of Mike Otieno who was his mentor and childhood trainer.

Before joining Gor Mahia, Masika previously featured for: Kenya Polytechnique, Sacramento, Lang’ata United and the Tusker Youth academy soccer team respectively.
