Zapata unfazed despite SEVEN absentees
AFC Leopards head coach Rodolfo Zapata is unfazed despite the absence of up to seven key players for the Mashemeji Derby on Saturday against Gor Mahia. Though he says it will be a blow to miss the players, the Argentine is optimistic that the rest of the squad will up their game and get maximum points from their rivals.
AFC top scorer Ezekiel Odera is suspended for two games having picked up five yellow cards on top of a previous red card. Defenders Dennis Sikhayi, Robinson Kamura, Salim Abdallah and Moses Mburu are all injured same as midfielders Jaffery Owiti and Marvin Nabwire.
“Missing 7 players is bad news. This is like 70% of my first squad but I have a great group of players and tactical solutions to cover up. We are ready to fight and play good football. We can win or lose, but my team will never negotiate about good football, winning attitude and 100% effort.” – AFC Leopards Head Coach, Rodolfo Zapata said as he eyes the three points.
AFC lost the first leg 2-1 at Kasarani just over a month ago but Zapata is determined to lay revenge over their arch rivals, seeking a first win for Ingwe since their 1-0 victory in Kasarani in March 2016.
The tactician expects a tough duel but is optimistic his charges will manage to pick maximum points.
“I respect Gor Mahia but we are AFC Leopards and obviously want to win. We have a huge commitment to our fans as a club and I also have a personal commitment to them. We will give it our best and fans should expect an exciting game. The first 20 minutes will be the key.” He concluded.
