The Kenya 7s team has made an exciting addition to its squad ahead of the Vancouver Sevens 2025 as highly-rated youngster Jackson Siketi has earned his debut call up. Siketi, who has shown immense promise in the sevens circuit, is among the two new faces in the 13 man squad announced by head coach Kevin Wambua on Thursday morning.

Siketi, alongside Kabras Sugar team mate Fijian-born international Jone Kubu, replaces Benson Salem and Festus Shiasi in the squad. His inclusion reflects the trust Wambua has in the 2024 Kenya Under 20 star, who has made an impact at the domestic level and in the international youth circuit. Siketi’s impressive form with Kabras Sugar Rugby Club and his leadership in the national junior team have set the stage for this significant step in his career.

This call-up to the Kenya 7’s is a testament to Siketi’s hard work and determination. His rapid ascent through the rugby ranks includes standout performances in the National Sevens Circuit and the Kenya Cup, where he played a crucial role in helping Kabras Sugar win their first ever Dala Sevens title in 2024. Siketi’s exceptional ability to perform under pressure, as demonstrated in his MVP winning performances at the East Africa School Games Rugby Sevens and National Secondary Schools Rugby Game with Koyonzo Secondary, has earned him this chance to represent Kenya on the international stage.

The Shujaa squad, which is currently ranked 9th in the HSBC Sevens World Series standings after the first three rounds in Dubai, Cape Town and Pert, is focused on improving their position. They are looking to build on their past successes in Vancouver, having finished as runners-up in both 2018 and 2021.

In Vancouver, Kenya is placed in Pool A alongside Argentina, France and Great Britain, an all top eight teams in the world. With the goal of advancing from the group stage, the squad is determined to showcase their best performance yet, led by co-captains George Ooro and Samuel Asati.

Patrick Odongo, who is also in the squad, has been one of the standout players this season, chasing the top try scorer award with 11 tries, just one behind the leader, Joji Nasova from Fiji.
