Wisa has since urged her teammates not to rest on their laurels and continue with the good effort and exuberance.
KCB women's volleyball team captain Edith Wisa has termed their second straight sets victory over Ethiopia's National Alcohol Sports Club in the ongoing 2023 Women's Club Championship in Tunisia "a morale booster" to their title defence.
Despite an early first set scare, the Bankers bounced back to bamboozle their Ethiopian adversaries 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-9) in the north-eastern coastal town of Tunisia where this year's continental championship is being hosted.
Wisa remarked that the platform for their second successive victory in the Mediterranean town of Nabeul was laid in the early stages of the match when they analysed their opponent's first set tactics in totality.
The soft-spoken skipper admitted that the first set was full of hard toil but lauded her teammates for giving a massive effort, by and large.
Wisa expounded: "So far we thank God for our second win today. it's a morale booster to us. We look forward to topping our pool so that when we progress, we will get number two team from the other pool and it will be an easy one for us."
Today's performance saw the Bankers top in Pool B.
The winner in each pool will meet the number four team in the round of 16 which is being preceded by the pools. Rightly so, numbers twos will meet number threes also in the round of 16.
But asked the point they realized the match was won; Wisa recounted;
"During the first set when we managed to put up with the pressure they were giving us. The Ethiopians were serving very well and it gave us a challenge in ball reception in the first set. But after the team settled all was well."
Wisa has since urged her teammates not to rest on their laurels and continue with the good effort and exuberance.
Coach Munala was all smiles: "It’s good for us that we have won two matches in a row and we are hoping to win the next match in the pool against the Senegalese team the day after tomorrow (Tuesday)."
"We had not seen this Ethiopian side for a long time but they challenged us. They were not hitting the ball hard and we are not used to that kind of volleyball. So we had to adjust so many times to settle in. After the first set we settled down and mastered their trick and that’s why we beat them by lower scores in the last two."
In another pool B match, Nyong et Kelle of Cameroon beat Asav Salitique 3-2 (17-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-5).
