Burundi national men’s volleyball team was no 0 for coach Gideon Tarus' charges as Wafalme Stars picked their first win at the ongoing CAVB Zone Five Africa Games qualifiers.

Kenya is out to clinch one of the two available slots from the zone and make a return to the continental stage after a 13-year hiatus that saw the side miss out on the 2015 and 2019 editions.

Wafalme got their campaign off to a spectacular start, taking the first set 25-21 in dominant fashion but struggled in the second set as Burundi led for the better part before the Kenyan side recovered for a 25-23 win.

The final set was probably the easiest for Wafalme who seemed to have settled in well and ruled the court for a 25-17 scoreline that gave them crucial three points ahead of their match against hosts Egypt on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Malkia Strikers fell for the second day in a row, going down 3-1 to hosts Egypt in a repeat of Friday's opening day match.

The two women's side have already qualified for the continental games with Egypt heading to the Games as the Zone champions while Malkia will be out to defend the title they won in 2019.
