Pipeline will play Police Volleyball Club on Thursday in their second match of the round-robin match.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) former champions Pipeline started their campaign at the ongoing Africa Zone Five Club championships on a winning note, beating Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) by straight sets.
The Paul Gitau-coached outfit went 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21 in a dominant display to establish themselves as one of the favourites in the competition.
The first set was all Pipeline as they led 10-05 but a lapse in concentration saw KCCA claw back to level matters at 16. However, Pipeline pulled away for 22-18 before winning 25-19.
The second set was closely fought as the sides tired at 5 and 7 points before the Kenyan side pulled away for 14-10, racing away for a 25-15 win.
The third set at some point witnessed a 6-6 draw before Pipeline broke away to 9-6, 16-13 and 21-17 leads to eventually shut out their Ugandan opponents 25-21.
“We thank God for the win,” Kenya Pipeline captain Rose Magoi said post-game. “It wasn’t an easy win, they are a tough team and we expected a tough competition.”
