Former Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama has rallied fans to attend Sunday’s FKF Premier League “Mashemeji Derby” between eternal rivals AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Wanyama, who had a stint at Leopards in his formative years, posted a video on his social media handles on Friday, saying, “ "This Sunday we have the Mashemeji Derby. Let's go to Nyayo Stadium to support local football Gor Mahia versus AFC Leopards, one of the biggest derbies in Africa.”
The CF Montreal midfielder of course rallied behind Leopards, saying, “"Don't miss it people, let all of us come and support our teams. Come on AFC let's go."
Both teams come into this clash in fine form, hosts Leopards having won their last three league outings against Mathare United, Bandari and Kenya Police.
Gor are coming off a draw against Sofapaka and back to back victories against Vihiga Bullets and FC Talanta in their last three outings as they seek to maintain their seven year dominance over Leopards in this fixture.
Gor Mahia have won 32 of the 92 previous meetings with Leopards winning 27 while the other 43 matches have ended in draws. Gor are currently third on the log with 23 points, six more than seventh placed Leopards.
