Kenya will feature two teams: Shujaa and Morans. Other competitors include Uganda Cranes and Shogun Rugby (formerly Samurai Rugby) while Zimbabwe also makes its return to the tournament.
Shujaa head coach Kevin Wambua has officially announced his 12-man squad that is set to compete in the upcoming 2024 Safari Sevens tournament from October 11 to 13 at Machakos Stadium. The remaining players from the previous preliminary squad not named will represent Kenya as team Morans in the competition.
Leading the team is George Ooro from Strathmore Leos, a key player in Shujaa's resurgence and their return to the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series. He is joined by Brian Mutua of Kabras RFC and Kevin Wekesa who recently joined French side Monaco Rugby Sevens and just participated in the 2024 – 2025 Extenso Super Sevens new season.
Other notable selections include William Mwanji also from Kabras Sugar and Dennis Abukuse from Menengai Oilers. Abukuse has been in top form and he was the top scorer and third best impactful player in the just concluded National 7s Circuit. Samuel Asati of KCB returns after missing the Prinsloo 7s where his absence was felt in his team’s performance. Nondie’s playmaker Benson Salem has also made the squad despite a challenging injury season.
Mwamba RFC's Brian Mutugi returns for his second Safari Sevens appearance together with rising star Jackson Siketi from Kenya U20. The squad is completed by veterans Nygel Amaitsa, Patrick Odongo and Gabriel Ayimba, son of legendary coach Benjamin Ayimba.
Shujaa duo of Vincent Onyala and Brian Tanga miss out on this competition. Tanga has a wrist injury while Onyala has a slight knock on the knee.
