Wafalme Stars stun Egypt in Kigali

The Wafalme Stars rallied from a loss in the opening set to defeat the seven time champions 3-2 in sets of 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25 and 15-12 to register their first ever win over the North Africans. Morocco and Tanzania are Kenya's other opponents in this pool.

Kenya started their Men's African Volleyball Championship with an upset win over multiple champions Egypt in their opening Pool D encounter at the Kigali Arena on Wednesday 8 September 2021.

The Wafalme Stars rallied from a loss in the opening set to defeat the seven time champions 3-2 in sets of 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25 and 15-12 to register their first ever win over the North Africans. Morocco and Tanzania are Kenya's other opponents in this pool.

The African Men's Volleyball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national volleyball teams of Africa, organized by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB). The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1987 they have been awarded every two years. The current champion is Tunisia, which won its tenth title at the 2019 tournament in Tunis.

The top two teams at the close of this competition will qualify for the 2022 World Championships.
