Volleyball Giants Clash in Season Opener at the 'Murima Edition'

On the Women’s side, KDF started the season strong beating Vihiga Volleyball 3 – 0. (25-16, 25-23 and 25-18). Kenya Army triumphed over Maranatha 3 sets to 1 (25-12, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14)

The 2024/25 Kenya Volleyball Federation National Volleyball League kicked off on Thursday 31st with exciting matches in Nyeri. The ‘Murima Edition’ which runs until Friday 1st November saw volleyball giants battle it out for supremacy in exciting matches in their season openers.

In the men’s league, KAPU triumphed over Baze Yetu, winning three consecutive sets convincingly, in the first set, they won 25-13, 25-17 in the second set and 25-18 in the final set. In another match, Kenya Ports Authority secured a solid 3 – 0 win against Equity, taking the first set by a comfortable twelve-point margin and narrowly winning the last two sets with the scores of 25 – 21 and 25 – 22.

In the Uniformed men derbies, Prisons Kenya and GSU both achieved victories over Kenya Army and Prisons Rift Valley respectively. Prisons won their match 25 – 22, 25 – 25 and 25 – 14 while GSU defeated their opponents 25 – 13 and 25 – 17 in two sets.

In their second match, Prisons Kenya faced a tough challenge but managed to edge out Trailblazers 3 – 1 with scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-15 and 25-20. In other matches, Equity lost to KDF (21-25, 15-25, 27-29) while AP Kenya beat Kenya Army (22-25, 22-25, 19-25).

On the Women’s side, KDF started the season strong beating Vihiga Volleyball 3 – 0. (25-16, 25-23 and 25-18). Kenya Army triumphed over Maranatha 3 sets to 1 (25-12, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14), while DCI beat Young Spikes 3 – 0 (25-04, 25-05, 25-08). In contrast, Prisons Kenya’s women’s team faced disappointment, losing a closely contested match against Kenya Pipeline 3 – 2 (25-14,25-27,25-22, 23-25, 18-16).

The league will continue on Friday, November 1st before the national tournament takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
