Kenyan international Lilian Awuor left the country on Tuesday evening to link up with her new club ASJ Soyaux-Charente who play in the French top tier, the Division 1 1 Feminine. She will sign a two and half year contract with the side.

Awuor caught the eyes of the French club during the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League where she put up a series of outstanding performances in goal, including a woman of the match performance in the clash against eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

Awuor joins the increasing ranks of Kenyan female footballers plying their trade outside the country including Esse Akida, Cynthia Shilwatso, Mwanahalima Adam and Dorcas Shikobe.

Before departing for France, Awuor said, ““I am so delighted that finally my dream of playing professional football is coming true. I thank my teammates and management of Vihiga Queens for all the support."

Her club, Vihiga Queens also wished her well, stating, “As Vihiga Queens, we shall forever be grateful to Lilian for her services to our club and we take this opportunity to wish her the very best as she continues her professional football career in France.”
