The Kenyan girls won the inaugural tournament in 2021 beating CBE 2-1 during the final staged at Kasarani Stadium.

Kenyan champions Vihiga Queens have finished fourth in the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League, CECAFA Zone qualifiers after losing 1-0 to Buja Queens of Burundi in the third-place playoffs.

Both Vihiga and Buja had to battle for the third and fourth places after losing their respective semifinals clashes last weekend.

Vihiga lost 2-1 to the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) while Buja who have more than five Kenyan players within their ranks were beaten by Tanzanian champions JKT.

Interestingly, Vihiga's bid to finish third was thwarted by a Kenyan as Lydia Akoth struck the winning goal in the 40th minute to earn Buja the win.

Before kick off, Buja head coach Feruzi Haruna fielded five Kenyans in the starting team as Ruth Ingosi, Elizabeth Wambui, Topister Situma, Akoth and Corazone Aquino all got slots.

Monica Karambu, Rachael Muema and Diana Wacera were named as substitutes in a game that curtain raised for the final.

Vihiga were making comeback to the tournament after a year out due suspension imposed on Kenya over government interface.

Simba Queens won the subsequent edition but didn't get the chance to defend their crown after losing the league title to JKU.

The winner of the regional tournament will book a place in the continental tournament set for Ivory Coast.
