Vihiga Queens beat Nakuru to win Women Premier League
Gaspo first shot themselves in the foot on Thursday after playing Ulinzi Starlets to a one-all draw at the Gems Cambridge grounds.
Vihiga Queens have clinched the Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League title after narrowly edging Nakuru City Queens 2-1 at the ASK show grounds on Sunday.
With one remaining match before the campaign ends, Vihiga’s hard-fought win saw them stretch their tally to unassailable 52 points.
The victory was sweetened by the fact that their closest challenger to the title in Gaspo Women wasted yet another chance of catching up with Vihiga after playing Wadadia to a 2-2 draw at the Mumias Sport Complex.
The race to the title would have had a thrilling end had Gaspo secured maximum points away to Wadadia considering that the Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee coached side is yet to play Vihiga in the last game of the season.
Gaspo first shot themselves in the foot on Thursday after playing Ulinzi Starlets to a one-all draw at the Gems Cambridge grounds.
The club was on the verge of bagging the three points in the match but conceded a late penalty that Ulinzi scored to force a share of the points.
Following Vihiga’s win in Nakuru, the team will be crowned champions for the fourth time since its inception in the final day of the season.
The Boniface Nyamunyamu coached side got the two goals courtesy of Anita Namata who struck a brace.
In another match played also on Sunday at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi, Zetech Sparks beat Kisumu Allstarlets 3-1.
