Not even news that their financial needs had finally been taken care of would STOP Gor Mahia’s latest free fall as the champions elect fell 2-0 away to Vihiga United in Mumias on Wednesday afternoon. Goals from Amos Kigaid and Dennis Wafula sank the champions who lost a third straight match.

With the players training over the past two days, coach Dylan kerr put in his strongest team with the likes of Humphrey Mieno, Francis Kahata, Joash Onyango and skipper Harun Shakava returning to the starting team.

Coming off back to back losses against Thika United and Ulinzi Stars with lack of training occasioned by a training boycott, Gor were eager to put the bad spell behind their backs and finish the season on a high.

But, the champions found themselves trailing after 32 minutes when Kigadi notched his second goal in as many matches in the 32nd minute taking the hosts to dreamland.

After the break, the home side eager to earn maximum points and take advantage of K’Ogalo’s honeymoon had the second goal in the 63rd minute, Wafula driving into the box before beating Shabaan Odhoji.

The victory was a huge one for Vihiga which more or less assured them of a slot in next year’s league, easing their relegation fears.

The victory took them to 13th spot with 37 points, nine away from the two automatic relegation slots. The only way they can be dipped into a relegation fight is if they lose both their final matches and Chemelil Sugar win theirs.

In this case, they will play the promotion/relegation play-off against the third placed team from the National Super League.
