Unstoppable:Telkom retain Africa hockey title

Jackie Mwangi and Betty Tioni were on target for Telkom Orange as the Kenyan hockey Queens successfully defended their African title with a 2-0 win over home rivals Strathmore University Scorpions. The final match of the climaxing African hockey club championships was played on Sunday afternoon at the Lugogo grounds in Kampala Uganda with the women finals being an all Kenyan affair.

This was the second successive title for Telkom Orange who won the last edition of the same cup in Bulawayo Zimbabwe in December 2012.

In Kampala, Telkom won the tournament with a 100 percent win record, “It was a good tournament and a well played final match, everyone enjoyed it and I am happy we successfully defended the cup. Now we celebrate but we will soon head back to start preparing on how we will win it for the third time.” Said an overjoyed Telkom Orange coach Jos Openda while speaking on phone from Kampala.

Earlier at the same venue, Ghana Revenue Authority hammered Uganda’s Water Head 7-0 in the third place play offs while Police from Kenya lost 2-1 to Golden Sticks also from Ghana.
