The match played on Sunday 5th March was the last for GSU this season and the 16th for Ulinzi in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league
General Service Unit (GSU) dominated a heated clash against Ulinzi HC to subject the military side to their first loss of the season in a 26-22 outcome.
The match played on Sunday 5th March was the last for GSU this season and the 16th for Ulinzi in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league expected to conclude this month.
Christopher Mayende led the onslaught for GSU, who went to the break leading 11-09 and continued to deny Ulinzi for the four-goal win.
While the win for GSU puts them in a good place for a top three finish at the conclusion of the league, it is a different story for Nixon Oyaro's Ulinzi who were hoping to dethrone National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), who are now the only unbeaten side.
"I am happy with the team's performance. We had set the target of finishing the league with better points than we did in our debut season and that has been achieved as we finished with 28 last season.
We lost to Strathmore, NCPB and Kenyatta University this season and finish on 30 points. We are also hopeful of a top three placing heading into the Super Cup," GSU player-cum-coach Mark Barasa said.
In other matches, Black Mamba picked an easy 34-25 victory over Boomerang to take their points tally to 28 from 16 matches.
Kenyatta University also picked a win against Boomerang in a 40-34 outcome and are sixth on 22 points.
Meanwhile, Ulinzi Sharks picked their 15th victory in 17 matches to go second on 30 points. Up against New Hope, the military side played for an easy 61-11 win.
Net Navigators fell to NCPB 18-27 but revenge the loss with a 34-18 victory over Daystar Falcons.
