Uhuru suspends sports activities!
President Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta has suspended all sporting activity in the country as Kenya continues to grapple with a looming COVID19 crisis.
Part of his address to the nation on Friday 26 March 2021 read in part, " All sporting activities suspended including members clubs activities suspended."
There is no timeframe to the suspension which comes at a time when sporting activities in the country were getting back to full throttle after a year's hiatus due to the pandemic.
This order also throws Olympic preparations into disarray as several national squads had embarked on, or were about to start specialized phases of training.
Kenya is set to host a series of high profile events include the Safari Rally, the World U20 athletics championships and the Rugby Africa Barthes U20 Cup. It remains to be seen what the next steps around these events will be.
