Tusker keep pressure on Gor ahead of Mashemeji derby
Gor Mahia must beat arch-rivals AFL Leopards to re-occupy the top slot in the Kenyan Premier League
Champions Tusker have moved to the top of the Kenyan Premier League after labouring to floor Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.
The win came courtesy of Ugandan forward Deogratious Ojok whose first half goal was all what Tusker needed to secure maximum points and scale to the top.
The Ruaraka based club finished with ten men after defensive midfielder David Odoyo was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Tusker have 64 points against their name, one ahead of record champions Gor Mahia who are scheduled to be in action on Sunday against their traditional rivals AFC Leopards at Nyayo.
Robert Matano's charges will be hoping that Leopards will make them a huge favour by beating Gor or even forcing a share of the points, an outcome that will favour them in the tight race to the league title.
In other matches played on Saturday, Wazito moved to the playoff place after beating Posta Rangers 2-1 at the Muhoroni Stadium.
While the result is welcome for Wazito faithfuls, it's a bitter pill to swallow for the free-falling Mathare as the former champions have now dropped deep into the red zone.
Wazito got hold of the three points courtesy of goals from Robert Onyango and Felix Ochieng with Rangers pulling one back through youngster Lewis Shivachi.
FC Talanta moved to safer rank after downing Vihiga Bullets 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium.Brian Yakhama scored the sole goal for Talanta. Bullets are already relegated.
