Telkom through to the finals with win over Ghana

Kenya and Africa Hockey champions Telkom Orange are a step away from defending their African title as they qualified for the finals of the ongoing club championships  with a 2-1 win over Ghana Revenue Authority on Friday in Kampala.

Telkom, who were winners of the last edition held in Zimbabwe have managed a hundred percent record so far in the tournament after winning all her matches since the tournament began last week Saturday at the Lugogo Grounds.

Jackie Mwangi and Becky Tioni scored for the defending champions with Ghana landing an easy goal courtesy of a misjudgment by the Kenyan keeper.

Telkom will next meet the winner of the second semi finals between Strathmore University (also from Kenya) and Water Head of Uganda, a team that Telkom walloped 7-0 in their opening match.The final match will be played on Sunday.

Speaking after the match, Telkom’s team coach Jos Openda lauded their opponents Ghana Revenue crediting them for fighting hard, “They (Ghana) gave us good resistance and I must congratulate each and every member of my team for working hard and staying mentally focused. They tried to close us down on our tactical moves but we are glad it ended in our favor and we are now in the finals. We will not lose our focus as we are committed to ensure we take the trophy back home.” He said.
