Tarus confident in team ahead of East Africa showdown

The team is expected to hit camp next week with the tactician saying all 20 players will be maintained for at least two weeks to help improve on their craft and ensure continuity in the squad.

Coach Gideon Tarus has explained his decision to name more outside hitters in his provisional squad ahead of the East Africa Community Games slated for December.

Tarus named a 20-man team, last to be whittled down to 14 after two weeks of training ahead of the competition slated, tentatively for 12 December in Rwanda.

"We have a good squad, one that is able to get the job done. It is a slightly different squad from the one that did duty in the African Championship but I am not worried.

We decided to name more outside hitters as we look to address our reception which is a key area for us. We have good players in that department that can also play as opposite hitters as we do not want to focus on just attacking," the tactician explained.

The team is expected to hit camp next week with the tactician saying all 20 players will be maintained for at least two weeks to help improve on their craft and ensure continuity in the squad.

While naming the squad, president Charles  Nyaberi expressed his confidence in the team, praising the dedication, hard work, and talent of these athletes.

He emphasized that they were selected after rigorous assessments and encouraged them to represent Kenya with pride and sportsmanship at the 2023 East Africa Community Games.
