Harambee Stars U20 coach Salim Babu has announced his final squad for the upcoming AFCON U20 CECAFA region qualifiers, set to take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from October 6th to 20th. The team has been in residential training camp in Nairobi since September 22nd and will travel to Tanzania on Friday, 5th October.
Among those selected, eleven players were part of the squad Babu worked with during last years CECAFA U18 championships held in Kisumu. Notable names on Babu’s final list include Nastic Sports Aldrine Kibet, AFC Leopards duo Kelly Madada and Hassan Beja. National team U18 captain Amos Wanjala alongside his assistant Stanley Wilson of AIK Sweden also made the cut.
Kenya is placed in group A of the competition alongside hosts Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan and Djibouti. Group B of the competition consist of the reigning champions Uganda, South Sudan Burundi and Ethiopia. The top two teams in Group A and B will automatically qualify for the semi-finals while the two finalists will get the slot to represent the region next year at the AFCON tournament.
