Strathmore to name traveling squad

Strathmore University Scorpions’ coach Meshack Senge will be naming his traveling team to this year’s hockey club championships in Kampala on Wednesday. From the team of 22 that has been training at the City Park, coach Senge is expected to leave behind 4 players with only 18 expected to make the trip.

This will be Strathmore’s second stub at the championships having also participated in the last edition held in Zimbabwe. According to Senge, the students target a podium finish at the end of the tournament that starts on 11th January at the Lugogo Park.

“Looking at my team, I am encouraged that we have trained well and all indicators are very positive. We haven’t lost any players from the team that played in Zimbabwe and that is a plus for us because we have gathered confidence and experience over time.” Senge says.

“We will be facing some very mature teams including Telkom whose experience is relatively higher than my girls in the competition but everyone in the team is focused, committed and determined to make it to the podium; that is a very positive character.” He adds.

The team is expected to depart Nairobi for Kampala on Thursday morning, two days before the tournament kicks off. Telkom Orange also departs on Thursday 9th.

The other Kenyan teams that will be taking part in the tournament are men hockey league side Kenya Police and champions Nairobi Simba.
