The result sees the Madaraka based students secure Kenya’s ticket to the 2023 Africa Club Championships

Strathmore Scorpions were crowned the 2022 Kenya Hockey Union Women Premier League champions on Saturday 19 November 2022 after a 4-2 victory over the USIU Spartans gave them an unassailable lead with two matches to spare en route to their maiden league title.

Grace Bwire, a Kenyan international, was in fine form for the Scorpions, bagging all four goals with Naomi Kemunto and Beatrice Mbugua scoring a goal each for Spartans.

The result took the Scorpions to 28 points, seven clear of second placed Lakers who are on 21 points with former champions a distant third on 17 points.

The result sees the Madaraka based students secure Kenya’s ticket to the 2023 Africa Club Championships, but more importantly, sees them end Blazers ( formerly Telkom) long standing dominance of the premier women’s league competition in the country.

Blazers, the outgoing champions have a battle on their hands against Kisumu based Lakers for the second spot, and they will have to exert themselves in the quest to overhaul the four point gap over their next two fixtures.

Lakers though, have expressed their desire to close out the season on high by targeting second place and will not be keen to cede any ground against Blazers.
