Strathmore hockey seeking corporate support

Strathmore University hockey teams are looking for corporate sponsors as they chase for tickets to the Africa Club Cup Championships set for December.

Last year, the men's team did not compete at the continental club show for lack of funds, and Strathmore hopes to secure financial support this year for both men and women's sides.

Strathmore University remains the first and the only university in Africa to have qualified and fielded teams in the Africa Club Cup Championships.

Head coach Meshack Senge said that they are hunting for the top two positions at the end of the league, to qualify Strathmore teams for the Continental championships.

"Our next two league games are going to be very crucial in our chase after the tickets to the Africa Club Cup Championships. We are going to stay focused and tackle a match at a time. I am confident we will book two berths to the continentals," said Senge who guided the Strathmore University lineups to the finals of Africa Club Cup Championships in 2012 (men's), and in 2013 (women's).

"We are optimistic that we will get funding from corporate sector to enable our team compete in the prestigious club championships," added Senge.

"Strathmore is a feeder to other clubs in Kenya and beyond including the national team and  I am happy when I see players I trained excel," continued Senge.

League champions (men), Butali Sugar has earned itself a nickname 'Strathmore B' because most of its players are alumni of Strathmore University hockey team, while majority of the current national team players are either current or former players at the institution.

Currently Strathmore University women's team is second on the table while the men's is sixth with five and seven matches respectively to the end of the league.
