Stars players vow to sabotage Cecafa match over unpaid allowances

In what is now becoming a familiar script, Harambee Stars players have vowed not to honor the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup match against Zanzibar on Friday if their allowances will not be cleared before kick-off.

Each player is entitled to Ksh 5,000 per day while away but according to our sources inside the camp, there were plans to reduce this to Ksh 3,000.

On Friday, the unpaid allowances will have accumulated to Ksh 40,000 i.e. Ksh 5000 for 8 days.

After the team refused to board the flight to Cape Verde, FKF partly cleared the unpaid dues and were left with a balance of Ksh 9,000 due to each players. This brings the total to Ksh 49,000 per player.

“We have given our hearts out for the flag but it seems those in administration want to fool us around. The Government promised to take care of the national team so we are not sure who is holding us hostage with our dues yet we have bills to meet, families back home to take care of,” An angry player told michecoafrika.com from the team’s base.

“This never ending disputes with FKF over unpaid allowances are making the team lose focus. If you work, you get paid. It’s that simple! Enough is enough!,” added another Star player.

The team beat Uganda 2-0 in the first match before settling for a 1-1 draw with Burundi and currently top their group.

With FKF office aspirants currently busy campaigning for re-election, the player’s woes could again land on deaf ear.
