Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwaba has invited Kenya Rugby Union Federation to a meeting at the Ministry Headquarters at Maktaba Kuu on Monday 28th November to address their plight and there after a media briefing at 12.00pm
The Media invite reads: "This is to invite the media to a press briefing between the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and The Arts and the Kenya Rugby Union Federation on the status of Rugby in Kenya.”
“The briefing will be presided over by the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ababu Namwamba , EGH.”
The urgent meeting follows a plea by elite members of the Kenya Sevens team for well-wishers to bail them out after going without pay for several months.
Billy Odhiambo and Willy Ambaka put out tweets on Sunday morning, just hours before the team’s departure for the Dubai 7s pointing out the difficulties in making ends meet.
Ambaka wrote: “Greetings to the Kenya Sevens family! As some of you may have heard, we are now going on our third month without pay."
“Our lives have been greatly strained, even in our persistent effort to give you the desired outcomes on the pitch.”
“Our desperate situation has now forced us to turn to you, our global community, to help us in raising funds. We need your assistance,” he concluded.

CS Ababu Namwaba has been traversing the globe. Last week, he met FIFA President Gianni Infantino, General Secretary Fatma Samoura and CAF President Patrice Motsepe at the sidelines of the Qatar FIFA 2022 World Cup in a final push to have Kenyan football’s ban lifted.
While at Qatar, he shared ideas with Harambee Stars captain Micheal Olunga before taking his seat to cheer Ghana as they battled Portugal then enjoyed Cameroon vs Switzerland and Brazil vs Serbia.
From Qatar, he headed to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivore where he delivered the keynote address in a gathering of creatives from Africa and the Diaspora hosted by Afreximbank.
