National U18 team head coach Salim Babu has named the provisional team for the forthcoming CECAFA tournament
Barely two days after his appointment, national U18 team head coach Salim Babu has named the provisional team for the forthcoming CECAFA tournament.
Babu was named the team’s coach on Wednesday and will be assisted by Bidco United boss Anthony Akhulia.
The Kenya Police assistant coach has summoned a number of players bearing top flight experience.
Key among them is Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Stanley Wilson who has a senior team call up.
He will join the camp alongside his teammates Mathew Kibiwott and Kevin Wangaya.
Sofapaka right back Barron Ochieng and Ulinzi Stars attacker Lucas Maina who recently recovered and return to action after battling a fracture are in the team.
Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala, and Shabana youngster Delphine Omuru are also in the provisional list.
The team has eleven players from the second tier and students attached to various schools especially those which did well in this year’s KSSSA championships.
Aldrine Kibet, Amos Wanjala, and Allan Kasavuli who all moved to the Nastic Sports Academy in Spain after winning the national title with St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale made the cut.
St. Anthony’s and finalists Shanderema School produced 6 and 3 players respectively while Kakamega School’s Green Commandos has 4 players led by captains Jack Ongaya and Clement Kawere.
The CECAFA U18 tournament kicks off on November 25th in Kisumu.
