Coached by Kevin Wambua, Kenya was looking to better their performances from Rio and Tokyo with a potential podium finish

Kenya’s rugby sevens team is technically out of contention for a quarter-finals position at the Paris Olympics after losing its first two opening matches on Wednesday, falling to Argentina 31-12 and Australia 21-7. But there is hope and the boys must dig deep for a chance.

As Kenya takes on Samoa in their third Group B match on Thursday afternoon, there is more than pride to play for as they aim to secure at least one group match win and hope for a possible qualification as the two best last teams from three pools. This therefore means Kenya must beat Samoa by a comfortable margin to stand a chance of progressing.

Coached by Kevin Wambua, Kenya was looking to better their performances from Rio and Tokyo with a potential podium finish. However, the results in Paris have fallen short of their expectations.

Shujaa is currently positioned at the bottom of Group B with zero wins and two points, while Argentina and Australia, both on 6 points, lead the group and are poised for qualification depending on their final group match on Thursday, July 25th.

Argentina will face Australia to determine the group winners ahead of the quarter-finals.

Shujaa finished 11th at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and improved to finish 9th in Tokyo.
