In spectacular fashion, Patrick Odongo became the hero of the evening, powering through from the halfway line with an explosive run to score the winning try. This victory set up another epic clash between Kenya and Samoa.
Shujaa had lost all their Pool B matches, falling to Argentina 31-12, Australia 21-7, and Samoa 26-0. However, the win against Uruguay, who were also winless, was a morale booster for the team, recently returned to the HSBC Sevens World Rugby Series.
